Chelsea have continued their push for the FA Women’s Super League title by beating West Ham United 8-0 at Kingsmeadow this afternoon.

The Blues netted twice in the opening 11 minutes against Matt Beard’s side and they never looked back from that rapid start.

The floodgates opened after just six minutes when Maren Mjelde fired home from close range and it was soon 2-0 to The Blues when Beth England rounded visiting keeper Courtney Brosnan to score.

Sophie Ingle got her name on the scoresheet once again when she struck from close range after West Ham United had again struggled to deal with a corner kick delivery.

A goal-crazy second half started with a disallowed effort, Drew Spence’s curling strike being chalked off for offside.

Erin Cuthbert soon netted Chelsea’s fourth goal of the game with a strike from distance before the visitors quickly found themselves 6-0 down after quick-fire efforts from England and Mjelde.

Ramona Bachmann then thumped in a seventh from close range before youngster Emily Murphy got her name amongst the goalscorers in second half stoppage time to cap-off the 8-0 rout.

The result leaves Chelsea in second position in the FA Women’s Super League table, one point behind leaders Manchester City with a game in hand.
