Chelsea Under-18s have kept the heat on Fulham in the Under-18 Premier League Southern Division table with a 2-0 victory over Southampton at Cobham this afternoon.

Dynel Simeu and Thierno Ballo got the goals as Chelsea remained second in the league table on goal difference.

An explosive start from The Blues saw Ed Brand’s side strike the bar in the very first minute. Dion Rankine took aim and his effort cannoned back off the woodwork.

Chelsea were again unfortunate just before the half-hour when Miles Peart-Harris rounded visiting keeper Matt Hall but Pascal Kpohomouh cleared the ball off the line.

The deadlock was soon broken when Lewis Bate swung a ball into the area and Simeu was there to head home to make it 1-0 to the hosts.

The Blues threatened the Southampton goal again early in the second half but Rankine could only watch his effort whistle wide.

Chelsea were to take a 2-0 lead in the 56th minute when Marcel Lewis saw an effort saved by Hall but Ballo was on hand to bundle the rebound into the back of the net.

Substitutes Harvey Vale and Charlie Webster had chances to score a third goal for the South West Londoners but they were unable to make their mark as The Blues ended 2-0 winners.
