Chelsea defender Tariq Lamptey has joined Brighton & Hove Albion on a permanent deal according to reports by The Blues’ official website.

The 19-year-old Hillingdon-born defender has made the breakthrough at Stamford Bridge this season but has moved to the Amex Stadium in a bid to enjoy more regular first team playing opportunities.

It has today been reported that a deal between the two clubs for Lamptey has been agreed and the teenager has signed a three-and-a-half year deal on the South Coast. Lamptey could make his Brighton & Hove Albion debut at West Ham United tomorrow afternoon.

Lamptey has spent the last 11 years as a Chelsea player. After starring for the club at Under-18 and Development Squad levels, the player was handed his first team debut against Arsenal last month. Lamptey has since gone on to make two further senior appearances for The Blues in the Emirates FA Cup.

The transfer comes as something of a surprise with Lamptey seemingly set for a bright future in the game. The player was the seventh from the Chelsea academy to be handed his debut by manager Frank Lampard this season and the defender’s first team involvement in 2019/2020 was likely to continue had he not moved to Brighton & Hove Albion.
