Chelsea could face runaway English Premier League leaders Liverpool in the fifth round of this season’s Emirates FA Cup after the draw was made earlier this evening.
The Blues have received a home tie in the fifth round draw with Frank Lampard’s men facing the winners of the replay between Liverpool and Shrewsbury Town.
Chelsea qualified for the fifth round with a largely routine 2-1 victory over Sky Bet Championship club Hull City at The KCOM Stadium on Saturday. Michy Batshuayi and Fikayo Tomori got the goals for The Blues on Humberside as they safely negotiated their way into the last 16 of the competition.
The South West Londoners’ fifth round opponents are yet to be decided with Liverpool having thrown away a two-goal lead as they could only draw 2-2 with Sky Bet League One club Shrewsbury Town at the Montgomery Waters Meadow on Sunday evening. The pair are set to contest the replay at Anfield on Tuesday 4 February with the winners travelling to Stamford Bridge in the fifth round. The Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has hinted that he will field a much-weakened side for that tie.
