Chelsea have suffered a first loss of 2020 with Frank Lampard’s side crashing to a late defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park this evening.

Normal time failed to produce a goal on Tyneside but the home side were to find the back of the net with midfielder Isaac Hayden heading home in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time

Newcastle United came the closest to opening the scoring early on but out of form striker Joelinton saw a header cannon off the crossbar.

Chelsea had chances of their own with Tammy Abraham firing an effort over before N’Golo Kante saw a shot saved by home keeper Martin Dubravka as the first half ended goalless.

The second half saw the visitors shade the chances. Willian dragged an effort wide before Abraham failed to find the back of the net after rounding Newcastle United keeper Dubravka.

Emerson Palmieri saw an effort deflected wide with eight minutes to go before disaster struck for Lampard’s men deep in second half stoppage time when Hayden headed in the winner from an Allan Saint-Maximin cross.

Chelsea are back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to London rivals Arsenal in the English Premier League.
