Aston Villa proved to be Chelsea’s party poopers once again as they beat The Blues 3-2 in the Under-18 Premier League South at Bodymoor Heath earlier this afternoon.

The Claret and Blues have made life difficult for the South West Londoners at Under-18 level in recent seasons and that theme continued as Chelsea’s grip on top spot loosened.

At was all going to plan for Ed Brand’s side after five minutes with Tino Anjorin latching onto a ball from Marcel Lewis before going on to increase his ever-growing goal tally in the division this season, putting Chelsea 1-0 up.

Aaron Ramsey’s strike then levelled matters for the hosts and that was how the scoreline remained for the rest of the first half.

The pattern continued at the start of the second period. Lewis was again provider as he played in Lewis Bate to put Chelsea back in-front but Villa again quickly hit back through Jaden Philogene-Bidace.

Both teams searched for the winning goal but the game seemed destined to end in a draw. That was until Ramsey connected with a Carney Chukwuemeka ball to fire home the winner for Villa with just three minutes remaining.

The result leaves Chelsea two points clear at the top of the Under-18 Premier League ahead of their next league fixture against Southampton at Cobham in a fortnight’s time.
