Chelsea will be hoping to close the gap between themselves at third-placed side Leicester City in the English Premier League table when they travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United on Saturday evening.

The Blues are six points adrift of The Foxes they but have a five-point cushion on Manchester United in fifth position as they aim to qualify for next year’s UEFA Champions League.

Newcastle United could be without as many as five players for their fixture against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side. Midfielders Jack Colback and Sung-yong Ki are expected to again be sidelined while Yoshinori Muto, Allan Saint-Maximin and Andy Carroll could also miss out as they battle against their respective injury problems.

Chelsea make the long trip north to Tyneside without American midfielder Christian Pulisic who continues to be sidelined with a muscle tear while there is no end in sight to Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s lengthy absence. Blues boss Lampard could offer late fitness tests to experienced pair Marcos Alonso and N’Golo Kante with both players having a chance of making the matchday squad.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 5.30pm and will be screened live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League channels.
