Chelsea have recorded their first victory of 2020 in the English Premier League by beating Burnley 3-0 at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.
Jorginho, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi were all on target as The Blues’ eased to victory over The Clarets.
Chelsea made a bright start to the match and both Willian and Abraham could have opened the scoring if not for the brilliance and bravery of Burnley’s Ben Mee.
Jeff Hendrick then fired the ball into the Chelsea net only for the linesman to rule out his effort for offside.
The Blues were given a golden opportunity to take the lead on 26 minutes when Matt Lowton fouled Willian in the box. Jorginho stepped up to take the spot kick and made no mistake from 12 yards.
Chelsea were to take a two-goal lead into the break. Reece James’ pinpoint cross was met by Abraham and the forward headed home.
It was game over four minutes into the second half when Callum Hudson-Odoi swept the ball home following a cross from Cesar Azpilicueta before Abraham headed a chance wide when he looked certain to make it four.
It was then a case of damage limitation for Burnley who were indebted to goalkeeper Nick Pope. He denied Willian and Mason Mount in quick succession as The Clarets avoided a more embarrassing scoreline.
Chelsea ended the match 3-0 winners and they will now look forward to a trip to Newcastle United next weekend.
