Tariq Uwakwe netted a brace as the Chelsea Development Squad defeated Manchester City at The EEB Stadium in Aldershot earlier this afternoon.

The Blues are enjoying an excellent campaign in the Premier League 2 and their good form continued against a well-drilled Manchester City side.

Despite winning the match, Chelsea were second best at times in this encounter but they made the most of the chances which came their way. Uwakwe fired Andy Myers’ side into a 12th-minute lead when he latched onto Tariq Lamptey’s pass to strike the ball home.

The visitors were troublesome throughout the first half but Chelsea rode their luck to maintain their one-goal advantage going into the break.

City again threatened to level matters in the second half but The Blues took a big step towards the three points when Uwakwe netted his second goal of the game after being teed up by midfielder George McEachran.

The visitors did pull a goal back two minutes later when Morgan Rogers fired home to make the last 19 minutes of the match nervy ones for Chelsea but they hung on as they maintained their advantage at the Premier League 2 summit.

The Chelsea Development Squad are back in Premier League 2 action on Friday 24 January 2020 when they take on Everton in Southport.
