The Chelsea Development Squad came from 3-1 down to record a thrilling 3-3 with Derby County at The EBB Stadium in the Premier League 2 this afternoon.
Jon Russell netted a brace for Joe Edwards’ side while Charlie Brown was also on target for The Blues in a hugely entertaining match in Aldershot.
Derby County took a 19th-minute lead when Josh Shonibare fired the ball into the net at the near post but Chelsea soon levelled matters when Russell expertly directed a header into the corner of The Rams’ goal.
The Blues were unlucky not to take a lead into the break when Henrich Ravas superbly denied Thierno Ballo with his goal-bound header being clawed away to safety.
The visitors regained the lead early in the second half when Jayden Mitchell-Lawson’s initial effort was saved by Blues keeper Nicolas Tie before Louie Silbey fired the loose ball home.
Jahmal Hector-Ingram then raced away from the Chelsea backline before slotting the ball beyond Tie to make it 3-1 to the visitors.
Chelsea responded on the hour mark when Clinton Mola attempted to bundle the ball over the goal-line but Russell raced in to make sure, the latter claiming the goal.
The comeback was complete 12 minutes from time when Ravas flapped at a Henry Lawrence cross and Blues striker Brown headed in the equaliser from close range.
The Chelsea Development Squad are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Liverpool in the Premier League 2.
