Chelsea FC Women are into the quarter-finals of this season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup after thumping Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Kingsmeadow this evening.

The Blues will qualify as group winners with four wins out of four in this season’s tournament so far.

The first half produced few clear goalscoring opportunities and both sides went into the break deadlocked. A couple of half-chances came Beth England’s way but the forward was unable to test Chloe Morgan in the Tottenham Hotspur goal.

The Blues took the lead four minutes into the second half when England’s effort deflected into the path of Drew Spence who bundled the ball home.

Erin Cuthbert then added a second goal from the penalty spot after Hannah Blundell had been fouled in the area before England raced away to net a third, beating Morgan when one-on-one.

Defender Deanna Cooper bagged the fourth goal of the game, a rare strike for the player, before Rosella Ayane’s tap-in saw Tottenham Hotspur pull a goal back with 11 minutes left on the clock.

England wrapped up the scoring six minutes from time as she completed her brace. A free-kick from Magda Eriksson cannoned off the bar and the Lionesses star was on-hand to convert the rebound.

Chelsea are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Birmingham City in the FA Women’s Super League.
