Chelsea FC Women have agreed one of the most significant transfer deals in FA Women’s Super League history by acquiring the services of Australian international forward Sam Kerr according to official club sources.

The 26-year-old striker will join The Blues in January and has agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Kingsmeadow.

Kerr is the all-time record goalscorer in both the American and Australian leagues while she has netted 38 goals for her country, a rate of almost a goal every other game. The player has represented the Chicago Red Stars for the last couple of years but recently made the decision to leave the club to pursue a new challenge.

The striker has netted 65 goals in the American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in total, the league’s best, while her tally of 18 goals in the 2019 campaign is a record for an individual season. She also holds the record of scoring the most goals in a league match, that return being four. Kerr has scored the greatest number of goals in the Australian W-League (64) and the most goals scored in a single season (13).

Kerr joins a Chelsea side who have rediscovered their top form once again this season. The Blues currently top the FA Women’s Super League table after five matches.
