Chelsea’s Under-19 side were held to a 1-1 draw by Ajax in their latest UEFA Youth League clash at Cobham this afternoon.
George McEachran fired The Blues into a first half lead but Terrence Douglas levelled matters early in the second half.
Ajax were the stronger side for most of the first half and home keeper Karlo Ziger had to be alert to save a Jaymillio Pinas effort before Donny Warmerdam also tested the Croatian stopper.
Chelsea took the lead against the run of play when Tino Anjorin was fouled 25 yards from goal. McEachran took the free-kick and curled a superb effort into the Ajax net.
Tariq Lamptey came close to doubling The Blues’ lead but he could only find the side-netting after racing away from the visiting defence.
Andy Myers’ side almost scored their second goal early in the second half but Valentino Livramento fired an effort just wide.
The South West Londoners were to rue that miss just minutes later. Douglas moved into the box and found the top corner with a stunning strike.
Chelsea responded but both Thierno Ballo and Armando Broja saw efforts saved by Ajax keeper Issam El Maach.
The Dutch side threatened to take all three points late on but a Filip Frei shot flew wide as The Blues hung on for a point.
Chelsea return to UEFA Youth League action on 27 November when they travel to Spain to take on Valencia.
