The Chelsea Development Squad have returned to the Premier League 2 summit after beating Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Cobham this morning.

Jon Russell and Armando Broja got the goals for Joe Edwards’ men as they continued their impressive start to the new campaign.

It took the best part of half an hour before either side registered a meaningful shot on goal but when the chance came the ball was in the back of the net. Thierno Ballo squared the ball to Russell in the box and the player slotted his effort home.

Blackburn Rovers almost levelled soon after the break when Hayden Carter had a free shot at goal with Blues keeper Karlo Ziger beaten. Luckily for Chelsea, defender Marc Guehi got back and cleared the ball off the line. Jack Wakely and George Nunn also put in committed challenges as the visitors pushed forward.

The Lancashire side did get their equaliser when Daniel Buttworth lashed the ball home after being given too much time and space in the box.

Blackburn Rovers’ hold on the game was quickly removed with Chelsea grabbing the winner. Broja had a free run at goal and he blasted the ball beyond visiting keeper Joseph Hilton as The Blues claimed the three points.

Chelsea are back in action on 23 November when they travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League 2.
