Chelsea are aiming for an eighth consecutive victory in all competitions when they take on Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening in the Round of 16 of the Carabao Cup.
The Blues’ winning streak started with a 7-1 demolition of Sky Bet League Two club Grimsby Town in the last round and Frank Lampard’s side have since taken some notable scalps.
Chelsea boss Lampard could make several changes to his side following Saturday’s 4-2 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor, although it remains to be seen just how seriously he will take the cup tie against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United. Willy Caballero, Emerson Palmieri, Billy Gilmour, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi are some of the players who could be drafted in.
The Blues are again set to be without Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Ruben Loftus-Cheek while N’Golo Kante and Ross Barkley are also still unavailable.
Manchester United boss Solskjaer is having to deal with the long term absences of both Eric Bailly and Paul Pogba. Defenders Diogo Dalot and Axel Tuanzebe are also out along with midfielder Timothy Fosu-Mensah. Luke Shaw and Nemanja Matic are not fit enough to be selected for The Red Devils’ trip to South West London.
The match is scheduled to kick-off at 8.05pm and will be screened live on Sky Sports Main Event.
