The Chelsea Development Squad have continued their good start in the Premier League 2 with a 3-1 victory over Arsenal at The EBB Stadium in Aldershot this evening.
Charlie Brown bagged himself a brace while there was also a stunning goal for Clinton Mola as Joe Edwards’ side continued their positive start to the new season.
An impressive start from Arsenal kept Blues keeper Jamie Cumming on his toes early on, however, it was Chelsea who took a 17th-minute lead when Brown slotted home from Thierno Ballo’s pass.
The Blues extended their lead 15 minutes later in emphatic fashion. Billy Gilmour’s free-kick caused real havoc for the Arsenal defence and they could only clear the ball as far as Mola who smashed a stunning volley into the net.
Arsenal were to pull a goal back before the break. Cumming could get a hand to Folarin Balogun’s initial effort but he could not prevent Ben Cottrell from firing home the rebound.
Chelsea were to regain their two-goal advantage 11 minutes into the second half. Gilmour delivered a delicious cross onto the head of Brown and he made no mistake in scoring his second goal of the game from close range.
Trae Coyle forced a good stop from Cumming as Arsenal tried to reignite their hopes of collecting an unlikely point but the home side clawed onto their lead as they secured a comfortable victory.
Edward’s side are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Everton in Premier League 2.
