Chelsea are into the fourth round of this season’s Carabao Cup after beating Grimsby Town 7-1 at Stamford Bridge this evening.

Michy Batshuayi netted a brace while Callum Hudson-Odoi was also on the scoresheet on his return to the side as The Blues went goal-crazy against The Mariners.

Chelsea took the lead after just four minutes when Ross Barkley capitalised on some slack defending from the visitors to fire the ball home and it was soon 2-0 when Batshuayi tapped in a James cross.

Matt Green reduced the arrears with a sweet volley before Pedro netted a penalty kick just before the break to make it 3-1 to the home side.

Frank Lampard’s side went close to netting a fourth just after the interval but Batshuayi could only strike the post with his shot.

Chelsea were soon celebrating another goal when Reece James crossed the ball for defender Kurt Zouma to direct the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Grimsby Town keeper James McKeown then denied Batshuayi with a save from point blank range before James got his name on the scoresheet with an excellent effort from 20 yards.

There was still time for Batshuayi to complete his brace, lashing the ball high into the net before Hudson-Odoi rounded off the scoring with a routine finish.

Chelsea’s reward for their victory is a home tie against Manchester United. The tie is scheduled to be played the week commencing 28 October 2019.
