Young Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to step up his rehabilitation from injury with an appearance for the Development Squad against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium this afternoon.
The 18-year-old Wandsworth-born winger is celebrating signing a new five-year contract at Stamford Bridge earlier this week as reported by The Blues’ official website.
Hudson-Odoi has not represented Chelsea at first team level since April with an Achilles injury prematurely ending his campaign. The player has been rebuilding his fitness in recent weeks ahead of his long-awaited return to the fold.
The winger made his comeback with the Development Squad in last week’s 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge. Hudson-Odoi played 61 minutes of that match before being replaced by Tino Anjorin.
It has now been reported that Hudson-Odoi will get more minutes under his belt with the Development Squad when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium this afternoon. Should the player come through that contest unscathed, first team boss Frank Lampard could opt to include Hudson-Odoi in his squad to face Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge next weekend.
Hudson-Odoi has been on Chelsea’s books for over a decade, graduating from the club’s academy system to make his first team debut against Newcastle United in an Emirates FA Cup tie in January 2018.
