Chelsea return to UEFA Champions League this evening following a one-season absence when they take on Spanish side Valencia in their opening Group H match at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues defeated Arsenal 4-1 in last season’s UEFA Europa League final in Baku to lift UEFA’s secondary European trophy and Frank Lampard’s young side will now have their eyes on the big prize.

Chelsea go into the tie with Valencia without experienced duo Antonio Rudiger and N’Golo Kante. Defender Rudiger has a groin injury which he picked up at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday while Frenchman Kante is still recovering from an ankle injury. Youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi is also not yet fit enough to return after a lengthy absence.

Spanish club Valencia arrive at Stamford Bridge following a poor start to the season which has seen them win just one of their four league games. Albert Celades’ side have lost both of their matches away from home this season against Celta Viga (1-0) and Barcelona (5-2).

Valencia go into tonight’s tie without full-back Cristiano Piccini who has fractured his knee while winger Carlos Soler is out with an ankle problem.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 8pm and will be screened live on BT Sport 3.
