Chelsea will take on Sky Bet League Two club Grimsby Town at Stamford Bridge in the third round of this season’s Carabao Cup.

The Mariners were made to replay their second round tie with Macclesfield Town at Blundell Park after the initial fixture was abandoned at half-time due to a waterlogged pitch.

The two sides played out a goalless draw in Lincolnshire last night with Grimsby Town winning the tie 5-4 on penalty kicks to earn themselves a money-spinning third round tie against English Premier League giants Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

It has been revealed that the match will take place on Wednesday 25 September and will kick-off at 7.45pm. The fixture is not expected to be broadcast on live television.

Chelsea are set to meet Grimsby Town for the first time in more than 23 years. The two sides last met in the  fifth round of the FA Cup in 1996. The two sides played out a goalless draw at Blundell Park in the initial tie before The Blues won the replay at Stamford Bridge 4-0.

The South West Londoners have announced that tickets for their upcoming tie are on general sale and are priced at just £10 for adults while juniors can gain admittance for £5.
