Chelsea will face either Grimsby Town or Macclesfield Town at Stamford Bridge in the third round of this season’s Carabao Cup.
The Blues will enter this season’s competition in the third round as a result of their participation in the UEFA Champions League.
The third round draw was made on Wednesday evening with Frank Lampard’s side being handed a home tie against Sky Bet League Two opposition.
Grimsby Town’s second round tie against Macclesfield Town was abandoned at half-time due to a waterlogged pitch. The two sides went into the break level after a goalless first 45 minutes. The Mariners are currently seventh in the Sky Bet League Two table with eight points while Macclesfield Town are one point ahead in fourth.
Chelsea last met Grimsby Town at Stamford Bridge in 1996 when The Blues were 4-1 winners in an FA Cup fifth round replay. The South West Londoners have only ever taken on Macclesfield Town once, that tie coming in the FA Cup at The Bridge in 2007 when The Blues ran out 6-1 winners in the third round.
Ticket details for the match will be announced by the club in due course. The fixture is not expected to be selected for live television.
