Chelsea will be looking to put Sunday’s humiliation at Old Trafford behind them when they travel to Istanbul to face Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Blues lost their English Premier League opener against Manchester United 4-0 and they now come up against European champions Liverpool in the city where The Reds enjoyed one of their most famous nights.

Liverpool go into the UEFA Super Cup clash without the services of first choice goalkeeper Alisson who is nursing a calf injury which he sustained during the 4-1 victory over Norwich City at Anfield on Friday evening.

Defender Dejan Lovren is not thought to have travelled to Turkey with the player allegedly suffering from illness.

Chelsea could welcome long term absentee Antonio Rudiger back to the squad for the match while Willian will also return. Midfielder N’Golo Kante picked up a knock in Sunday’s fixture at Manchester United and will be assessed by the Chelsea medical staff before kick-off on Wednesday evening.

Last season, The Blues beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield in the Carabao Cup while the two sides drew their league fixture at Stamford Bridge 1-1. Liverpool won their home league fixture against Chelsea 2-0.

The match at Besiktas’ Vodafone Park is scheduled to kick-off at 8pm and will be screened live on BT Sport 2.
