Chelsea begin their English Premier League campaign in the final fixture of the weekend when they travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the teatime kick-off on Sunday.

New Blues boss Frank Lampard will take charge of the club for the first time in a professional fixture as Chelsea look to build on last season’s third place finish in the English Premier League table.

Sunday’s opponents Manchester United come into the match off the back of a hugely deflating transfer window. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spent over £143 million on three summer signings but in truth, the squad is a world away from challenging for the league title once again.

Their marquee signing, defender Harry Maguire, is expected to make his debut for The Red Devils against Chelsea while fellow new boy Aaron Wan-Bissaka could also start. Midfielder Paul Pogba is likely to overcome a back injury to feature against Chelsea but Alexis Sanchez could be rested following his involvement in the Copa America.

Chelsea travel to the North West without long term absentees Antonio Rudiger, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi who continue to struggle with injuries sustained last season. Midfielder N’Golo Kante is also a doubt with the player having picked up a knee injury.

Youngster Mason Mount could be given his first team debut following an exceptional pre-season while striker Tammy Abraham may also be given the chance to impress.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 4.30pm and will be screened live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football channels.
