Chelsea FC Women have finished in fourth place at the Women’s French Cup tournament after losing their third-place play-off 5-0 to German club Bayern Munich Frauen.

The Blues were defeated 5-2 by Montpellier HSC in their first match and their performance was no better against a dangerous Bayern Munich side in France this afternoon.

The Germans took the lead after just 13 minutes. Linda Dallmann lobbed Blues keeper Carly Telford and while the ball bounced off the bar, Lineth Beerensteyn was perfectly placed to bundle the ball over the goal-line.

Bayern Munich went 2-0 up just before the half-hour mark when Dallmann played in Giulia Gwinn who slotted the ball beyond Telford with Blues defender Millie Bright unable to keep the ball out of the net.

The Germans went into the half-time break three goals to the good. Dallmann again caused havoc in the Chelsea defence and played in Jovana Damnjanovic who rifled the ball into the net.

Beerensteyn got her second goal of the game and her side’s fourth soon after the break when she raced onto Dallmann’s pass to fire a shot beyond Telford.

Beth England then struck a rare chance just wide for Chelsea before Beerensteyn completed her hat-trick when she capitalised on some poor defending by The Blues to power home a headed effort.

Chelsea are back in action in 12 days’ time when they face the Isreali national team in Tel-Aviv.
