Young Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu has completed his proposed loan move to Bundesliga club RB Leipzig according to The Blues’ official website.

The 18-year-old Exeter-born centre-back’s temporary move to Germany had been expected for several days with Ampadu having travelled across Europe for a medical.

On Monday, the youngster sealed his season-long loan deal to the Red Bull Arena and the player will now look to build further first team experience throughout the 2019/2020 campaign.

RB Leipzig finished third in the Bundesliga last season, 12 points behind eventual champions Bayern Munich. The Red Bulls have recorded two top three finishes in the German top flight in their three seasons in the division.

During his time at Chelsea, Ampadu has made 12 first team appearances while the player is still waiting to score his first goal for The Blues. The defender struggled with a catalogue of injury problems last season which restricted his progression in the Chelsea first team. Ampadu has now returned to fitness and the player is in need of regular football to give him the best possible chance of enjoying a long successful career in the game.

Ampadu could make his debut for RB Leipzig on Friday when the Germans take on French club Rennes in a pre-season friendly fixture.
