Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu is set to complete a season-long loan move to German top flight club RB Leipzig according to Sky Sports sources.

The 18-year-old Exeter-born defender is one of The Blues’ most highly-rated young talents but Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is keen for the player to get some regular first team football under his belt before he is given the opportunity to stake a claim at Stamford Bridge.

It has been reported that Ampadu is poised to join German club RB Leipzig. The youngster is believed to have undergone a medical in Germany and is expected to complete the move over the weekend.

After making the breakthrough from Exeter City’s famed academy system, Ampadu went on to represent The Grecians at first team level on 13 occasions. In summer 2017, the defender joined Chelsea with the transfer fee later being determined by a tribunal.

Ampadu made his senior debut for the South West Londoners just two-and-a-half months after joining the club in an EFL Cup tie against Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge. He has since made 11 further appearances for The Blues in all competitions.

The midfielder’s time at Chelsea has been severely disrupted by injury with Ampadu having sustained back and knee injuries which are believed to be related to his growth.
