Chelsea FC Women defender Ali Riley has left Kingsmeadow to join German club Bayern Munich Frauen according to The Blues’ official website.

The 31-year-old New Zealand international joined Chelsea from Swedish club FC Rosengard last summer but struggled for starts during her time in South West London.

After making just seven appearances from the start of matches, it has been revealed that Riley has opted to move on and she will represent German Bundesliga Frauen runners-up Bayern Munich in the 2019/2020 campaign.

Riley started her career in the United States with Pali Blues before representing FC Gold Pride and the Western New York Flash. In 2012, the player joined Swedish club FC Rosengard and she went on to win a number of honours including three Damallsvenskan league titles, three Swedish Cups and three Swedish Super Cups.

The defender’s move to Chelsea has seen her struggle. Riley was fielded by Blues boss Emma Hayes on 17 occasions last season but she found herself warming the bench all too often while a stubborn foot injury hardly helped her chances of more first team action.

It is understood that Blues boss Hayes agreed to let the player leave KIngsmeadow due to the club not being able to guarantee Riley regular first team action.
