Chelsea FC Women will return to Stamford Bridge in September for the first time in nearly three years according to reports by The Blues’ official website.

Emma Hayes’ side will open their FA Women’s Super League campaign against Tottenham Hotspur in SW6 as the club aim to play their part in growing the women’s game over the men’s international break.

The match will take place on Sunday 8 September while it will kick-off at 12.30pm. The Blues have announced that free admission will be on offer for all supporters looking to attend the match.

Chelsea’s return to Stamford Bridge comes almost three years from their last appearance at the venue. The Blues took on German club VfL Wolfsburg Frauen in South West London in the round of 32 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League in October 2016. Zsanett Jakabfi netted a hat-trick as Chelsea tumbled to a 3-0 first leg defeat.

The Blues’ fixture against Tottenham Hotspur is one of two league fixtures being held at men’s venues over the opening weekend of the season. Manchester City will face bitter rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium around 24 hours prior to Chelsea’s London derby with Tottenham Hotspur.

Hayes’ side face Spurs for the first time in the top tier after the North Londoners were promotion from the FA Women’s Championship last season.
