Young Chelsea defender Richard Nartey has joined Sky Bet League One club Burton Albion on a loan deal for the entire 2019/2020 campaign according to The Blues’ official website.
The 20-year-old London-born defender has signed a new contract with his parent club prior to completing his loan move to the Pirelli Stadium.
Nartey has been a regular for The Blues at academy level and was one of the key members of Joe Edwards’ Development Squad at Chelsea last season. He has also starred for the club during their adventures in the UEFA Youth League during his time in The Blues’ academy system.
The next step of Nartey’s development was always going to be a loan move away from Stamford Bridge to allow him to gain some first team playing experience and it has been reported that the player will represent Burton Albion next season.
The Brewers finished in the respectable position of ninth in Sky Bet League One in what was a very competitive division. Nigel Clough’s side were 10 points away from securing a play-off place, although they were closer to the top six than the relegation zone.
Burton Albion start their pre-season preparations with a fixture at Matlock Town on Saturday 13 July.
