Out of favour Chelsea defender Fankaty Dabo will join Sky Bet League One club Coventry City on 1 July when he officially becomes a free agent according to reports by The Blues’ official website.

The 23-year-old Southwark-born defender has spent over a decade on the books at Stamford Bridge but the player will move on this summer after failing to break into the Chelsea first team.

It has been reported that Dabo has agreed a deal to join Coventry City on a free transfer. The defender is no stranger to Sky Bet League One football with Dabo having spent time on loan with former third tier club Swindon Town earlier in his career.

Dabo joined Chelsea way back in 2007 and successfully graduated through the various youth age groups. The player has won both the FA Youth League and an Under-21 Premier League title with The Blues.

The defender has failed to make a single first team appearance for Chelsea and has been loaned out on no less than three occasions. After making 15 appearances and scoring one goal for Swindon Town, Dabo spent the 2017/2018 campaign on loan at Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem. He returned to the Eredivisie last season as he spent the campaign with Sparta Rotterdam.

Dabo joins a Coventry City side which finished in eighth in Sky Bet League One this season.
