Chelsea FC Women have announced that they will take on French club Montpellier HSC Feminines during pre-season.

Emma Hayes’ side finished third in this season’s FA Women’s Super League while they were semi-finalists in both domestic cups as well as in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The Blues face an important pre-season as they prepare to battle to regain some silverware in 2019/2020 and it has been reported that Chelsea will travel to France to take on Montpellier as part of their schedule. La Paillade will provide some stern opposition with Jean-Louis Saez’s side having also competed in the UEFA Women’s Champions League in recent seasons.

The trip over the channel could provide Chelsea with a real endurance test. Hayes’ side took on Montpellier in pre-season last season and were defeated 3-2 in  a match which was played in extreme temperatures. The two clubs’ previous meetings came in the 2017/2018 UEFA Women’s Champions League with The Blues winning 5-1 to qualify for their first-ever semi-final.

Chelsea’s fixture against Montpellier comes in the French Cup. The game will take place in the Stade Michel-Bendichou in Colomiers on Tuesday 6 August and will kick-off at 5pm (BST). Further fixtures are set to be held at the same venue on Thursday 8 August.
