The Chelsea Development Squad ended their Premier League 2 campaign with a 2-1 victory at Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday evening.
Richard Nartey opened the scoring and while the home side soon levelled matters, they later netted an own goal to hand Chelsea the three points.
Blues striker Daishawn Redan went close to opening the scoring early on but his effort struck the crossbar as the home side rode their luck.
That chance acted as a warning for what was to come and when Billy Gilmour expertly swung a corner kick into the box, defender Nartey was on-hand to head the ball home.
Chelsea’s lead didn’t last long. Some good work out wide by Soufyan Ahannach created the opportunity to play a dangerous ball into the box where Ryan Longman was waiting to fire a shot into the back of the net via the post.
Joe Edwards’ men were to regain their lead early in the second half in slightly fortunate circumstances. Gilmour took another corner kick and the ball struck the unfortunate Ben Hall before bouncing into the back of the player’s own net.
Charlie Brown then tested home keeper Robert Sanchez with a close range shot before Longman and Danny Cashman forced great saves from Jamie Cumming in the Blues goal.
Brighton & Hove Albion pushed hard for an equaliser but the Chelsea defence held firm as The Blues ended the campaign 2-1 winners.
