Chelsea’s desperate battle for UEFA Champions League qualification continues on Monday evening when Burnley are the visitors to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues’ fight for fourth place with Arsenal and Manchester United looks set to go down to the wire while latest opponents Burnley arrive in SW6 on the back of three consecutive league wins.
The home side return to action just four days after seeing off the threat of Czech club Slavia Prague in the UEFA Europa League. Maurizio Sarri’s side led their UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg tie 4-1 at half-time but a second half collapse saw them hanging on for a 4-3 victory on the night and 5-3 success on aggregate.
Blues boss Sarri could make changes to his side for their return to league action. The likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Willian are all pushing for recalls.
Antonio Rudiger, Ethan Ampadu and Danny Drinkwater continue to be sidelined and will not feature while Marcos Alonso is doubtful with a thigh problem. Frontman Eden Hazard sustained a knock to his ankle early in the match against Slavia Prague but should be fit to face Burnley.
The visitors travel to The Bridge sweating over the fitness of defender Phil Bardsley who is struggling with a leg injury. Steven Defour is out with a calf problem while Aaron Lennon and veteran striker Peter Crouch are also unlikely to travel to the capital.
The match is scheduled to kick-off at 8pm and will be screened live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League channels.
