Ruben Loftus-Cheek hit a dramatic late winner as Chelsea came from behind to beat Cardiff City 2-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium this afternoon and keep the heat off manager Maurizio Sarri.

Victor Camarasa fired the hosts in-front in South Wales before Cesar Azpilicueta and Ruben Loftus-Cheek came to The Blues’ rescue with goals in the final six minutes of the contest.

The South West Londoners started the match bright enough although they failed to trouble home keeper Neil Etheridge during a competitive first half hour.

The only shot of the half on target came from Cardiff City defender Lee Peltier who tested Blues keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga with an ambitious effort from range.

Disaster struck for Chelsea in the first minute of the second half when Harry Arter’s cross was met by Camarasa who fired in from close range.

Sarri’s men tried to rally but other than a Willian strike from distance, the Cardiff City goal was rarely threatened. It looked as though the home side would collect an unexpected three points until six minutes from time when Chelsea levelled matters. Azpilicueta headed in from close range, the goal was awarded despite the player being in an offside position.

The Blues completed a sensational turnaround in injury time when Loftus-Cheek directed his header into the net following a Willian cross.

Chelsea are back in action on Wednesday evening when Brighton & Hove Albion are the visitors to Stamford Bridge in the English Premier League.
