The Chelsea Development Squad completed a league double over Manchester City with a 2-0 victory at The Recreation Ground in Aldershot on Friday evening.

Luke McCormick and Daishawn Redan were on target as Joe Edwards’ side picked up a much-deserved three points in the Premier League 2.

It was McCormick who was unlucky not to open the scoring after just five minutes when his vicious strike was pushed over the bar by visiting keeper Daniel Grimshaw.

Chelsea took the lead on 25 minutes when Tariq Uwakwe created an opportunity for McCormick to take aim and the midfielder found the corner of the net from range.

Manchester City were by no means out of the contest and Blues keeper Karlo Ziger made a wonderful save to prevent Felix Nmecha from levelling matters with a sweetly struck free-kick.

Ziger was called upon again to produce saves from Ian Carlo Poveda and Adrian Bernabe’s efforts on goal before Nabil Touaizi hit the crossbar in first half injury time.

Chelsea were given a boost early in the second half when visiting defender Cameron Humphreys picked up a second yellow card and an early bath. The additional man took a while to produce any benefit for The Blues with Tariq Lamptey eventually putting the ball into the back of the net only to be adjudged offside.

Edwards’ men made sure of the win deep in second half stoppage time when Redan scrambled the ball over the line before City ended the game with eight men as Taylor Richards and Jeremie Frimpong lost their cool.

Chelsea are back in action on Monday 8 April when they travel to Liverpool in the Premier League 2.
