Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek says that the Blues are aiming to win the Europa League and finish in the Premier League’s top four.
The 23-year-old featured as a substitute during the Blues’ 3-0 victory in the Europa League over Dynamo Kyiv.
During his 28 minute cameo role, Loftus-Cheek provided the assist for fellow substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi’s late goal.
Having missed much of 2019 with a back injury, Chelsea’s form has seriously fluctuated, including heavy defeats against Bournemouth and Manchester City.
He described that the team’s dip of form is behind them and the recent return to winning ways has been down to the tight-knit nature of the squad.
“We have had some ups and downs, but one thing we have done is stuck together” explained the midfielder.
“After the big loss against Bournemouth and Manchester City, things could have fallen apart. But we kept it together in the changing room, stayed tight, stayed as a group, stayed as one. We lost together and won together.
“We have come through it now. We are feeling strong as a group and have bounced back from those times. We are doing well at the minute and want to keep that momentum going.”
He insisted that both finishing in the Premier League’s top four places and winning the Europa League are targets that Maurizio Sarri’s side have, either of which would seal a return to the Champions League.
Loftus-Cheek added: “There are very important games coming up. If we can win the Europa League – it is definitely our target – that would be great. Obviously finishing in the top four is another target so we have to be focussed from now on and treat every game massively.
“That’s how we come out thinking in every game. We will keep doing what we have been doing and treat every match the same.
“We are playing well at the minute, defending well and want to carry on this momentum. We must keep the same mindset. We want to win every game anyway.”
