Chelsea will hope to take a big step towards the quarter-finals of this season’s UEFA Europa League when they face Dynamo Kiev in the first leg of their last-16 tie at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening.
The competition is The Blues’ most likely source of silverware this season with their English Premier League title hopes having been over a long time ago.
Chelsea’s last-16 opponents could be classed as beatable, although manager Maurizio Sarri has hinted that he will rotate his squad following a gruelling run of fixtures.
The Blues are said to have no new injury concerns but the likes of N’Golo Kante and Eden Hazard could be rested while Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Olivier Giroud are ready for game time. Midfielder Ross Barkley is just one booking away from a suspension and may not be risked.
Dynamo Kiev arrive at Stamford Bridge on the back of a narrow 3-2 aggregate success over Greek club Olympiakos in the last round. Alyaksandr Khatskevich’s side will be without centre-back Josip Pivaric who is recovering from surgery while Mikkel Duelund and Fran Sol are nursing ankle and shoulder injuries. Winger Benjamin Verbic is suspended.
The match is scheduled to kick-off at 8pm and will be screened live on BT Sport 2.
