Crystal Palace beat the clock to successfully secure the signing of Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi on a loan deal for the remainder of the season according to The Eagles’ official club website.

The South Londoners have long been admirers of the Belgian frontman and they finally got their man in the last few minutes of the January transfer window.

It has been reported that Batshuayi has initially joined Palace on a loan deal for the remainder of the season. Parent club Chelsea are said to be keen to offload the striker on a permanent deal but there are question marks over whether loan club Palace would be in a position to submit a suitable transfer bid for the player in the summer should Batshuayi be a hit at Selhurst Park.

Chelsea are thought to have beaten Crystal Palace to the signing of Batshuayi in summer 2016. The Blues were successful with their £33.2 million bid for the Belgian and while Palace had a transfer offer for the player accepted by French club Marseille, Batshuayi is thought to have rejected to opportunity to join The Eagles at that time.

During his time at Chelsea, Batshuayi has made 53 appearances for The Blues in which he has scored 19 goals. The striker netted the goal which clinched the English Premier League title for the South West Londoners in 2016/2017.
