Chelsea will face English Premier League rivals Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in the fifth round of this season’s Emirates FA Cup after the draw was made earlier this evening.
The pair will come together just nine months after The Blues defeated United 1-0 at Wembley in last season’s Emirates FA Cup final.
The fixture is very much the ‘Tie of the Round’ and will surely be first in the queue to be selected for live television coverage when the schedule is announced later this week.
Chelsea have a good recent record at Stamford Bridge against Manchester United. The Blues have avoided defeat to The Red Devils in each of their last 10 meetings in South West London, a sequence which dates back to October 2012.
The two clubs met at The Bridge in the English Premier League earlier this season with the match ending in a 2-2 draw. Antonio Rudiger gave Chelsea the lead in the first half before Antony Martial’s double saw United turn the match on its head. The home side levelled matters in second half stoppage time through Ross Barkley’s strike.
Chelsea’s Emirates FA Cup fifth round tie is scheduled to take place of the weekend of 15-18 February 2019 with full details to be announced in due course.
