Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has joined Spanish club Atletico Madrid on a loan deal until the end of next season according to The Blues’ official website.

The 26-year-old Madrid-born striker has found life at Stamford Bridge difficult since joining Chelsea in summer 2017 and the player will now look to rebuild his career back in the city of his birth.

It has been reported that Morata will spend the next season-and-a-half with Atletico Madrid. The player previously had two spells with Atletico’s city rivals Real Madrid earlier in his career but will now pull on a red and white shirt.

Chelsea signed Morata from Real Madrid for a reported club-record fee of £60 million but the player has struggled to justify his hefty price tag. The forward has weighed in with 24 goals for The Blues but he has averaged just one goal every three matches, a strike rate which has not impressed many of the club’s fans.

Morata is yet to really reach his full potential during his senior career. The striker was a regular goalscorer for Real Madrid’s B Team but was so often used in reserve as a senior player at the Santiago Bernaneu. A two-year spell with Juventus saw Morata show some promise but his career has failed to take off since that period.

The striker will be hoping to impress at new club Atletico Madrid with the incentive of a permanent deal at the La Liga club a possibility.
