Chelsea have completed the signing of Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain on a loan deal until the end of the season according to reports by The Blues’ official website.

The 31-year-old Argentine international frontman moves to Stamford Bridge after spending the first half of the season on loan at Juventus’ Serie A rivals AC Milan.

Higuain is not thought to have registered as a Chelsea player in time to feature in the club’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg tie against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening. The frontman could be in-line to make his debut in Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round tie with Sheffield Wednesday should manager Maurizio Sarri opt to field him.

The striker started his career in his homeland with River Plate before joining Spanish club Real Madrid in December 2006. Higuain netted 121 goals in 264 appearances for The Whites while he won three league titles as well as the Copa del Rey.

In summer 2013, Higuain joined Napoli where he went on to work with Chelsea boss Sarri for the first time. The forward spent three years at the Stadio San Paolo before joining current club Juventus.

Higuain has been handed the number nine shirt by Chelsea and the player will be looking to hit the ground running when he makes his debut for the club.
